As the definition explains, the practicums in this program are designed to teach you to apply what you have learned in your online courses in the field. While the information and knowledge you gain through study is extremely important, there is no substitute for hands on experience and practice.

Practicums will typically involve one instructor and a maximum of four students. You will spend three days applying what you have learned in a real world situation. You will also be evaluated by the instructor as to your skill level.

You must have fulfilled all prerequisites before attending a practicum.

  • The first practicum must be taken sometime during first term courses.

  • The second practicum must be taken sometime during second term courses.

  • The third practicum can only be taken after completion of third term courses.

  • The first internship practicum can be taken anytime during your case studies.

  • The second internship practicum can only be taken upon completion of all case studies, and will serve as your final practical assessment.

You must visit at least three different instructors during the program, although we recommend going to as many different people as possible.

Students will be required to wear appropriate clothing, be on time, bring required materials and fully participate. After the practicum the instructor will submit an assessment for each student which will determine whether or not you are ready to move forward in the program. If the student is not yet fully capable and competent, more instruction may be required before proceeding.

Typically, practicums will be held in or near the instructor’s home town. Instructors are located in different states, and the academy reserves the right to direct instructor assignments.
