ESA Student
A student is currently enrolled in their first year of study with the Academy.
ESA Graduate
A graduate has completed all course work and passed all the exams and practicums listed in the Curriculum for year one, and has also achieved basic skills and knowledge in hoof care as part of our Whole Horse studies, but is not yet certified by the Academy in Hoof Care. After graduation the student is considered an intern.
ESA Intern
An intern has graduated from the Academy but is not yet certified in hoof care. The Intern year focuses on advanced hoof care training, and application of student year theory in the field.
Certified Equine Sciences Practitioner
A certified practitioner has completed all the required elements for both students and interns, and has achieved advanced hoof care knowledge and skills. (see Curriculum)

ESA Field Instructor
ESA instructors are carefully screened, and must fulfill strict criteria regarding knowledge, experience, people and teaching skills.
Field Instructor Qualifications (minimum)
Sponsored application for candidacy
Evaluation of overall philosphy and approach to equine health and husbandry
At least three years of experience in the field as a full time practitioner.
References and recommendations from the public and/or other professionals
Practical assessment of technical and teaching skills
Ongoing Instructor training and continuing education
